The End of An Era

I'm really close to becoming a real-live grown up! Only 6 days until I graduate from college! This is a bittersweet time, and to copy one of my friends on Facebook, it's a lot bitter, and only a little sweet. I would like to focus on the sweet and be thankful for this wonderful time in my life, while I am still super sad that it is coming to an end!

I think that the following quote sums up my time here at Miami. "To think that in such a place, I led such a life." It gives perfect closure to this wonderful experience in this wonderful place. To quote Friends, "It's the end of an era". I am moving on to new experiences, and will undergo a lot of change this summer. It was a wonderful time and I will miss it so much, but I need to stay positive and be excited for this new era. It is an era of starting my life with Brent, of getting a real job or going to more school to get a job, moving to a new state, making new friends, choosing a new church, and becoming a grown-up. These are all exciting things! For the first time, I am looking forward to all of these changes, and am excited to make my own life! While I have made my own identity and lifestyle here at Miami, I will continue to learn about myself after graduating. I can't wait to see what this summer and rest of the year will bring!

One of the major sins that I have been working on overcoming is worry. I have a lot of things in my life right now that I could be worrying about. I could worry about gaining admission to graduate school this fall, I could worry about my wedding, moving to Michigan and not knowing anyone but Brent, adjusting to my move while Brent works long hours this summer and travels to China for a month without me, and about what I am going to do for my career for the rest of my life. I have decided to give my worries to God and let him handle them. I trust that whatever happens in my life is in His plan. I think that this time in which I am waiting on grad school has taught me a lot. I have learned not to place my identity in my intelligence or my accomplishments. I have also learned to be a positive example for others who are struggling with worry about their futures. If I have to be that example of the person who has a positive outlook on not getting into grad school right away, I will do it. I will trust that it is in His plan and that it is best for me. I may not know now, and I may never realize it, but I will not worry about what I cannot control.

I have also gained more motivation and passion for my career since it is not coming as easily as I had expected. I thought that everything would be easy and that I'd move on to grad school because that is what I have to do. It's the next step in my career. What I am realizing now is that I can do anything I want, and that I do not have to follow any set plan. I can enjoy this time off to learn more about myself or to pursue other interests. I can think more about what I want to do with speech-language pathology. Since this road hasn't been what I expected, it has given me more appreciation for my education. I want to make the most of it and really try my best to utilize everything that graduate school offers. I have time now to get prepared and to re-focus my mind for this new stage.

In the meantime, I am going to evaluate myself and my interests and think about how I would like my life to look in the future, and how I want to spend my days. I have the opportunity to think about all of my options. There are so many paths in life, and I can make my own. I am just now realizing that the world has endless options, and I have the chance now to re-evaluate what I want to do. Although I still want to pursue speech-language pathology and attending graduate school, I have time to think about what I can do in between, after, and maybe on my own time while I am in my career. I am excited at the prospect of not knowing what I will be doing in four months! I do not know where life is going to take me, but I am confident that God has it under control, and that I will be happy!

This next week will be full of lasts, and I will soak up every moment! Thank you to everyone who made my college experience special! I am so excited for all of our futures!

Maggianos Birthday Dinner

I know this post will be hard to follow considering the last one, but I have to start somewhere! I would like to go back and post about last Wednesday, when I celebrated my birthday with my friends at Maggianos. We enjoyed some amazing family-style food that included mozzarella marinara, sausage and peppers, caesar salad, four-cheese ravioli, and Rigatoni D pasta. So delicious! I was cheesed out by the end of the night! It was such a fun night, and little did I know, everyone but me was aware that we were getting engaged in two days! I am so blessed to have found such a great friend group at Miami! Since I transferred for my sophomore year, I came in with a disadvantage because everyone had already made friends. Thanks to Brent, he introduced me to his great group, and they welcomed me in! I have now found other close friends here through my own activities. This dinner was a great reminder to me of how many amazing and supportive people I have in my life. It is also fantastic to be able to have mutual friends with Brent because it makes it so fun to spend time together! Now that we are engaged, they are completely supportive, and I can't thank them enough! I am so lucky!

My fiance and I...can't believe I'm saying that!!

Trust in Him

Monday calls for comfy clothes. This lovely Monday, I enjoyed getting a chance to wear my new sweater and spiky necklace along with comfy leggings and boots. It was great because I was very busy with my three classes, meeting with a professor, lunch with a friend, and lots of other random errands and meetings. Mondays are always very busy for me. I can't believe I am up right now writing this! I am going to regret it in the morning...

Being weird, as usual :)

I do not have any really exciting to say today, so I'd like to share a little saying that is on a plaque next to my bed. A resident gave it to me last year as a gift. It was such a nice gesture! Speaking of being an RA, it has been an amazing experience, and I'm so thankful that God allowed me to serve in this way! I think that I am a good person for the job, and I truly have a passion for my residents. I really do want to be there for them when they need help, and I love every opportunity I get when they actually come to me. Don't get me wrong, I will be so happy when I am not responsible for dealing with drunken girls vomiting and having to lock the kitchen due to too many messes, but these are not the majority of issues that I deal with as an RA. Most of the time I just get to know a very unique group of women who all have different backgrounds and stories. I am going to appreciate being responsible for myself only once I graduate, but I do love the opportunity that I have now. Anyways, here is the verse.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3: 5-6

This verse is very pertinent in my life right now because I am at a point where lots of decisions are being made for my future, and my life is going in a whole new direction. Lately, I've been praying for direction in where I am supposed to go to graduate school, and where Brent is supposed to work. This verse gives me encouragement in my worries. God has control over the plans, and I will trust that he has my best interest in mind. I've seen him lead me to the perfect places many times in my life, and I have confidence that he will do it again. It is such a relief to know that I am being taken care of! On that note, I hope that all of you reading this are trusting God with your lives, and are following his direction. I know that he has led me to know you, and I am very thankful! I would not be who I am without you!

It's Bonus Day!

Wow, it's been a while since I last posted! Sometimes I wait until the last minute at night, and I'm too tired. This weekend has been great, and is going to continue! I've had exams on Monday the past two weeks, so most weekends I've been stressing and spending most of my time studying. The reason that I call Saturday bonus day is because I do not have classes on Fridays, so Fridays seem like Saturdays, and Saturdays feel like a bonus day! You can read about this theory in more detail in one of my previous posts.

The highlight of my past few days was going to Chick-Fil-A yesterday with all of Brent's housemates and his brother and sister Jon and Lauren. After enjoying some chicken strips and waffle fries, Lauren, Megan, and one of their other friends Abby went Uptown to a new boutique. We had fun trying on some clothes and spending time together. It started pouring rain last night, which of course, I enjoyed. We left the boutique just as it started, and I was stuck on duty for the duration of the night dealing with the crazy women of Hamilton Hall. I really love my job, but sometimes weekends are hard being in charge of two halls when the majority of women come back intoxicated. I will be soooo glad when I graduate and don't have to be a mom to 150 other women!

Here are some of the highlights of my life the past few days in pictures! The weekend has just begun, so there will be another post soon. My new delicious choice of breakfast and the occasional lunch :).

New cheetah shirt with turquoise, loving the combo this fall.

The gorgeous and most photographed building in Ohio, which just happens to be right on my quad! MacCracken Hall!

My lovely home for this year and last, Hamilton Hall. You can't see it too well because of the trees, but it's a great place! I'll take a picture once all the leaves are gone sometime.

Mercedes and I on our way to dinner at my place of work, 1809. We shop together a lot, and as you can tell, we have very similar taste!

My hottie boyfriend, Brent, sporting an outfit that I especially loved :). Looking good with his blue shorts, sperrys, white polo, and grey sweater.

Brown Hair...Need Opinions!

All my readers are getting lucky today because I'm posting twice in one day! The purpose of this post is to gain your opinions on my new hair color for the fall. Please comment on what I should do! The options are staying blonde, going full-on brown, or going to more of a caramel-brown hair color. Here are some pictures of my past hair, and colors I am thinking about. Comment which you think I should go with!

A little bit after the brown had faded some.

Fully blonde again.

Darker brown.

Blehhhh...

To be honest, today's post was difficult to write. It was a normal, cold, dreary day, and I'm having a hard time thinking of what to talk about. I woke up and decided to skip the shower in order to sleep an extra 30 minutes, which I regretted all day because I felt yucky. You cannot listen to your half sleeping brain because its logic is flawed in this state! So there will be no outfit post today due to me taking an ugly day :).

After forcing myself out of bed finally and arriving at class 10 minutes late due to procrastination waking up, I actually enjoyed what we learned about. It is one of my gerontology classes, and we watched a sad video about Alzheimer's Disease, but I found the class very interesting. After class I rushed back to my warm bed to take a nap. Lately I have been going to bed very late, which causes me to be tired the next day, and I end up taking naps and feeling unproductive all day. I'm hoping to break the cycle and start going to bed at midnight by this Thursday night!

Basically all day after this, I went to more classes, got locked out of my room, felt dirty due to no shower and wearing sweats, wasn't in the mood for dancing during ballet, had chocolate milk spilled in my room, and forgot to press start on the washing machine, so I will be up until 1:30 AM waiting for my laundry.

Basically I am allowing myself to post this in my blog because some days are just kinda blehhh, and I'm accepting it. What I am going to take from this day is that tomorrow is a whole new story, a clean slate, and a new opportunity to succeed! I'm going to look forward to showering and putting on a decent outfit, having my artsy RA program, and underwater photo shoot with Mercedes! I'm done with class at 12:30 PM on Wednesdays, so I get excited for the afternoon even if I have lots of errands to run. It's nice to know that you will not be sitting in class.

Sort of a dull post, but I promise tomorrow will be better! Since I did not take any photos today, here's some throwbacks. Brent's roommate's puppy!
